Robin Schurman is both a graduate of Ryerson University, BID, School of Interior Design, and Concordia University, BFA, Major in Painting & Drawing.
The quaint and historic town of Perth, Ontario was where Robin began her journey into art. Between art classes and summers at Long Lake in the Rideau Valley, she would often find herself lost in her family gazebo, immersed with arts & crafts.
She followed her interest in new environments and art at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec. French culture, live music, and the bustling fine arts scene inspired her to take an independent study in watercolours with Marian Wagshal. Her fascination grew with an intensive drawing course abroad in the small village of Acquapendante, Italy. Horseback riding, hiking in nature combined with her trips into the urban centres of Florence and Rome gave her art new dimension and vibrancy.
As you may note, Robin’s design work is rooted in organic experiments of shape and colour, while reflecting European influence. These are all reflections of her time in both Italy and her ancestral Germany.
Robin later relocated to Toronto, where she currently resides in the burgeoning Bloordale neighbourhood. Time at the Designer’s Walk (A resource centre for designers) inspired her to go back to school for interior design. At the same time, she shadowed residential designer, Heidi Kerney.
Currenly Robin practices out of her own studio, already producing a collection of textiles featured on House & Home and sold at Y&CO.
Her approach is fluid, simple, and unique to all clients. Book a consultation today so she may design the truest reflection of who you are or what your space needs. Along the way, she will inject her own style of opulence, colour, and whimsy to compliment any taste.
